Secret (Jeb) Door

The Jeb Door is one of the oldest ways to build a secret door in Minecraft and is the focus of many tutorials. Unfortunately, because it’s so popular there are many poor quality tutorials which can lead to frustration for people just getting started. In this Tutorial Tune-Up we will walk through how to build a secret Jeb door and also explain exactly how it works as well as why it only works in Java Edition.

PROS

– Simple design
– The door looks seamless when closed

CONS

– Only works in Java Edition
– Require redstone components that are hard to craft outside of Creative Mode
– Difficult to close the door behind you

How To Build a Secret (Jeb) Door

Before we get into too many details we’ll go through the steps to build the secret door. Once we’ve done that we’ll break down how it works and also look at some common issues that you might encounter.

Building Materials

Make sure you are either in Creative Mode or have mined and crafted enough materials before starting on this tutorial.

– 12 Sticky Pistons
– 1 Lever
– 4 Redstone Repeaters

– 9 Redstone Dust
– 30 Stone Blocks

Prepare a Build Area

To create this build you’ll need a 3 x 6 build area

Step 1 – Use 4 sticky pistons to build a 2×2 wall in one corner of the build area. The pistons should be facing into the middle of the build area

Step 2 – Repeat step 1 on the opposite side of the build area

Step 3 – Use 4 sticky pistons to make an L-shape wall. 2 sticky pistons stacked on top of each other facing inwards on the right and repeat on the other side

Step 4 – get 4 stone blocks and put 2 on the right and 2 on the left when you do it you put them on top of each other and on the sticky part

step 5 -get 8 stone blocks and place 4 of the stone blocks on one side and the other 4 on the other side to make a 2×2 wall in each front corner.

step 6 – get 18 stone blocks and put them on top to make a roof.

step 7 – go to the back of the structure and place 4 redstone repeaters on the roof. They should be in pairs, two on each side, set one block in from the edge. The control pegs should be on the outside, you will need to stand in the centre of the roof, facing out, to get them placed this way.

step 8 – do 2 clicks on all the redstone repeters

step 9 – go back to front of the build and place the redstone in the way you see it in the picture

step 10 – place the lever below the redstone dust

step 11 – use your use button on the lever and you should see the redstone dust light up and the door shut
